Basel Dragons first AGM 09.07.2009

After a delicious meal prepared by Tracy Swift, Martin Holt called for order and opened the meeting at 20:30 hours. All Staff members, Martin Holt, Mark Swift, Marco Wassermann, Nick Steven, JP Zyla and Oskar Fiechter (keeper of the minutes) were present.  Maureen Vittery and Laura Vouci presented their apologies. The following points were discussed:

1.     Structure and set up of the Club

·       The idea behind the club was briefly outlined. The club will be open for anyone to join. Every member should feel involved and supported and there should be no cliques that would make other members feel excluded.

·       There are currently four training groups. There is a general agreement on the time and distances which are being currently covered.  Additional time for stretching activities should be built in and team leaders will be given more guidance on stretch routines.

·       Currently we are running once per week. The idea is to increase the frequency to two times per week as from September 2009 onwards.  Sunday morning seems to be the preferred option as a second meeting day, but needs to be discussed with the Dragon boat club.

·       Current team leaders will be trained to similar standards as given in basic coaching practices given by UK athletics.

·       Various options referring to the exact formal incorporation of the club as an organization are being evaluated by Martin and Mark.

2.     Membership and subscriptions

·       Official records for all members are being set up. For this purpose, every member received a form to complete in due time.

·       Every member is being made aware that they have to cover their own insurance risks, as customary in Switzerland.

·       Membership fee for 2009 are either CHF 15 per month or CHF 70 for 6 months. The approach for 2010 has to be decided, depending on the frequency of the training and on the premises which will be used by then.

3.     Sponsorship

·       We are getting nice sponsorship contributions from Pickwick’s. Future additional commitments by MEM sports, Athleticum and Migros are in discussion.

4.     Website

·       Nick is doing a tremendous job in setting up and maintaining our website.

·       There have been more than 25’000 hits to our website and we are displayed on top of Google when keying in the criteria “Basel running club”!

·        In order to continue to make this site attractive, we need additional and constant comments from all team members!

·       Christine Eighteen was also thanked for her role with the website.

5.     T-Shirts and other running kit

·       T-shirts (dri-fit) (costs CHF 30) will be ordered. Team captains to organize.

·       There is additional interest for hats and “hoodies”. The exact interest will be assessed next week.

6.     Premises

·       Currently we are using the premises from the “Drachenboot Club beider Basel”.

·       They are safe and convenient to use

·       If the running club continues to grow, we might have to consider larger premises.

7.     Events and activities

·       Every last Thursday night of the month we will continue to go out to for a meal together at restaurants (such as Noohns).

·       A list of upcoming races was handed out by Mark Swift (Coach and race organizer). This also appears on the website under Planned races August to November

·       The next race is the Firmenlauf to take place on Friday, 10th July 2009. Anyone who still wants to joint this race should contact Mark today.

The Basel Dragons main club race of 2009 will be the Basel Stadtlauf on the 28th November 2009. We hope all members will take part in this race.

After this race, there will be a party at Pickwick’s in Basel.

·       The next Hash event takes place on Saturday, 11th July 2009. Mark handed out the respective leaflet. He is the contact person for any questions pertaining to the Hash.

·       Our Christmas party is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 11th December 2009.

·       For 2009 there will be club competitions as well. They consist of 6-8 events with points in different classifications. Trophies will include: best female runner, best male runner and most improved runner, which will be selected by the coaches. In addition, we will have awards for the best running coach and also an award for the most popular runner.

The awards will be presented at the Christmas Party. Similar competitions will be made in 2010 as well.

With no more points being raised, the meeting ended at 21:30 hours.
